About automorphic representations of reductive groups, we want to understand the basic structures, which includes the Langlands functorial transfer to or the Langlands functorial transfer from other groups. This is the problem which has been studied for years. In this lecture, we start with brief review of the Langlands functorial transfer from the odd orthogonal group to the general linear group for generic cuspidal automorphic representations (the work of Cogdell, Kim, Piatetski-Shapiro, Shahidi, the work of Ginburg, Rallis, Soudry, and the work of Jiang, Soudry). Then we report my recent work (including my joint work with David Soudry) on (1) how to characterize the endoscopic structure of generic cuspidal automorphic representations in terms of the fundamental L-fnctions (D.J. to appear in IMRN 2006) (2) how to establish the Langlands functorial transfer for non-generic cuspidal automorphic representations (D.J.-D.S. work in progress for cuspidal representations with special Bessel models).

Variation of Heegner points in Hida families
▽ résumé △ résumé [affiche]
If $E$ is an elliptic curve over the rational numbers then one may construct classes in the cohomology of the $p$-adic Tate module $T_p(E)$ by taking the Kummer images of Heegner points. I will describe the construction of a family of Big Heegner points which lift these classes from the cohomology of $T_p(E)$ to the cohomology of Hida's universal ordinary deformation. I will then discuss results and conjectures concerning the nonvanishing of these classes, and applications to Greenberg's conjecture on the generic ranks of Selmer groups in Hida families.

We will report on some results towards geometric Howe correspondence in the framework of the geometric Langlands program. Let $Y$ be an étale two-sheeted covering of a smooth projective curve $X$. Consider the dual reductive pair $(G,H)$, where $G=\operatorname{GSp}_{2n}$ and $H$ is a form of $\operatorname{GO}_{2m}$ over $X$ that becomes trivial over $Y$. Write $\operatorname{Bun}(G)$ for the stack of $G$-torsors on $X$. We define the functors of theta-lifting between the derived categories on the stacks $\operatorname{Bun}(H)$ and $\operatorname{Bun}(G)$. For $m=n=1$ and $H$ nonsplit we show that the theta-lifting from $D(\operatorname{Bun}(H))$ to $D(\operatorname{Bun}(G))$ commutes with Hecke functors with respect to the corresponding map of $L$−groups $L^H \to L^G$. This allows us to calculate the geometric Waldspurger periods of cuspidal automorphic sheaves on $\operatorname{Bun}(2)$ as well as Bessel periods of some sheaves on $\operatorname{GSp}_4$ (for nonramified two-sheeted coverings of $X$).
